Renting in Malaysia should not feel like a risk you take. Dourr is the rental marketplace where listings are easy to compare, listers are accountable for who they are, and nobody has to pay a thing to look.
Recorded on a phone. Nothing sped up, nothing staged.
Why renting here is exhausting
You are not bad at this. The process is.
Every renter in Malaysia has the same story: a dozen tabs open, half the listings gone, the other half impossible to compare, and somewhere in there someone asking for a deposit before you have seen the door.
Listings that are not really there
Reported rental scams in Malaysia rose from 184 cases in 2023 to 922 in 2025, an increase of over 400% in three years, with losses of roughly RM2.5 million.

The message that never comes back
You send five enquiries and hear from one. There is no way to tell, before you write, which listers actually reply and which listings were abandoned months ago.
Nine tabs, no answer
Rentals are scattered across portals, classifieds and chat groups, each with its own filters and none with the same information, so comparing two homes properly is almost impossible.
What Dourr does differently
Everything you need to choose a home, and nothing you have to pay for.
Know who is on the other side
See exactly who you are dealing with, before you say hello.
Malaysia still has no Residential Tenancy Act and no tenancy tribunal, so accountability has to come from the platform. Every lister on Dourr carries their verification status in the open, on the listing itself, so you can weigh it before you spend a message on them.
Email and phone verification, shown on the listing itself
A public trust score and band you can see before you make contact
Real reviews on their profile, left by renters who dealt with them
Search that respects your time
Filter properly, save what you like, come back to it.
Search by area, building name, price, property type and bedrooms, then keep a shortlist that follows you. Saving works before you have an account, and the shortlist comes with you when you make one.
Search by area, building, price, type and bedrooms
Save listings as a guest, no account required
An over-narrow search widens itself and tells you, instead of showing nothing
No spam, no chasing
Message in one place. Keep your number to yourself.
Enquiries stay in Dourr, so your phone number is never handed out to be resold or added to a broadcast list. Contact details are blocked inside messages in both directions, which removes the reason to scrape listings in the first place.
Your phone number is never shown to a lister, at any stage
Phone numbers and socials are blocked in chat, even split across messages
Every conversation is on the record if something goes wrong
How the trust actually works
Trust you can inspect, not a badge we gave ourselves.
Nobody should take a rental platform at its word, including this one. So here is the machinery, in plain terms, and a link to the page where all of it is written down.
Listers verify email, then phone, and both of those show on the listing. Going further, to government identity through MyDigital ID, is what unlocks their side of a tenancy agreement, so the paperwork itself can only be started by someone who took that step.
Reputation from real dealings
Reviews can only be left by two people who actually dealt with each other through the platform, which is why there are fewer of them and why they are worth reading. They sit on the lister's profile alongside their trust score.
Contact details blocked in chat
Attempts to pass a phone number, email or social handle inside a listing or a message are detected and blocked, even when split across several messages, so conversations stay somewhere accountable.
Report it, a person reads it
Anything that looks wrong can be reported from the listing or the conversation. Reports are reviewed by our team, not closed by a bot.
From searching to signing
Four steps, one place.
01
Search and shortlist
Filter by area, price and property type. Save anything worth a second look, with or without an account.
02
Check the lister
Look at their verification and trust score on the listing, and their reviews on their profile, before you write. Then message them inside Dourr.
03
Book the viewing
Propose a few times that suit you and the lister confirms one. It stays tracked in your account, so nothing is lost in a chat thread.
04
Apply and e-sign
Apply in a couple of taps, agree the terms, then sign a proper Malaysian tenancy agreement electronically. Your copy is stored privately against the tenancy.
No pressure, no forms
Start a shortlist before you start an account.
Tap the heart on anything you like and it is saved to this device immediately, no signup, no email. Create an account whenever you are ready and the whole shortlist moves across with you.
Come back to your shortlist from any device once you are in
What this costs you
Nothing. And here is how that works.
Searching, saving, messaging, booking a viewing and applying are all free for renters, with no fee at any point. Dourr earns from optional extras on the lister side, things like a WhatsApp contact button, a verified badge and promoted placement, none of which change what you pay.
No search fee, no contact fee, no application fee
No commission taken from you at any point
No subscription and no card details to browse
What you still pay, and to whom
Your deposit, advance rental and stamp duty go to the landlord and to LHDN, the same as any tenancy in Malaysia. Dourr shows you those figures up front and calculates the stamp duty for you, so nothing lands as a surprise at signing.
Who Dourr is for
Whatever kind of renter you are.
Students
Rooms and studios near campus, with the monthly cost and what is included stated on the listing rather than discovered later.
Young professionals
Filter by area and price to find somewhere near the line you commute on, and shortlist without committing to anything.
Expats and newcomers
Area guides, document requirements and the local norms nobody explains, written for someone who has not rented in Malaysia before.
Couples and families
Compare bedrooms, furnishing and the surrounding neighbourhood, and sign a proper tenancy agreement when you have chosen.
Where people are renting
Start with a city.
Each city page covers what renting there is actually like: the neighbourhoods people choose, typical rents, transport, and the questions newcomers always ask.
Yes, and there is no asterisk on it. Searching, saving, messaging a lister, booking a viewing and submitting an application all cost nothing, there is no subscription, and you never enter card details to use the site. Dourr earns from optional extras on the lister side, such as a WhatsApp contact button, a verified badge and promoted placement. Separately, you still pay your landlord the usual deposit and advance rental, and the stamp duty on your agreement, exactly as with any tenancy in Malaysia.
We will not tell you every listing is verified, because that is not something we do and you should be suspicious of any platform that claims it. What Dourr does is make the person behind the listing accountable: listers verify their email and phone, and those signals are shown to you on the listing along with their trust score, with their reviews on their profile. Contact details are blocked inside messages so nobody can pull you into an unaccountable chat, and anything suspicious can be reported and reviewed by a person. Then do the two things that protect you most: view the property in person, and never pay a deposit before you have seen it and signed something.
No. You can search, open any listing and save what you like without signing up, and your saved list is kept on your device. An account is only needed to message a lister, book a viewing or apply, and when you create one everything you already saved moves across with it.
Your phone number is never shown to a lister, at any stage. Enquiries and viewing requests stay inside Dourr, and contact details are blocked in messages in both directions, which is also why nobody has a reason to scrape listings for numbers to spam. The one thing that does change hands is your email address, and only at the point you submit a tenancy application, because from there you are dealing with a real lease and both sides need a way to reach each other. Your identity documents, income and occupation are never shared with a lister.
This is the most common complaint about every rental site in Malaysia, and we will not pretend we have solved it. Dourr does not yet ask listers to re-confirm availability on a schedule, so a listing can still be live after a unit is taken, and asking landlords to confirm is on our roadmap rather than in the product. What genuinely helps today: listings show the date they were posted and the date the home is available from, so you can judge how current one is, and a unit closes automatically once its tenancy is completed on Dourr. If you find a listing that has gone, report it from the page and our team will follow it up.
Yes, and the requirements are deliberately uneven in your favour. To sign, you need a verified email address, nothing more. The landlord or agent has to have verified their identity with MyDigital ID, the government's own digital identity, before they can even set the terms or generate the agreement. Dourr then builds a full Malaysian tenancy agreement from what you both agreed, you each sign it electronically, and a witness can counter-sign if either side wants one. We also calculate the stamp duty on it and show you the 30-day deadline, though the payment itself is made to LHDN directly. Your signed copy is stored privately against the tenancy.
Not today. Your deposit goes directly to the landlord, the same as any tenancy in Malaysia, so treat it with the same care: view the property first, make sure the agreement is signed, and never send money to a personal account on the strength of photos. Holding deposits securely is something we are building, and we would rather tell you it is not ready than imply it is.
Report it from the listing or the conversation. Because messaging happens inside Dourr, there is a record our team can actually read, which is the practical reason to keep the conversation on the platform even when someone asks you to move it. Reports are reviewed by a person, and accounts can be suspended or removed where the rules were broken.
Yes. There are city pages for the main Malaysian rental markets, each with local neighbourhood, rent and transport detail, and you can search any area directly. Coverage is deepest in the Klang Valley, and if your area is thin right now, searching a nearby one usually turns up more.

What we are building next.
We would rather tell you what is coming than pretend it has arrived. These are in active development and are not available today.

Protected deposits
Hold the security deposit in a regulated account until the tenancy ends, so neither side has to trust the other on the way out.
In development
Availability confirmation
Ask listers to confirm a unit is still available on a schedule, so fewer of the listings you open have already gone.
Your next home is somewhere in there.
Searching costs nothing, needs no account, and asks for no card. Start with an area you like and see what comes back.
